Make no mistake about it; this is a band worth seeing. The question is, was Germany v Poland a better spectacle? Personally, I think not, BUT there was a definite lack of numbers in the audience. I can only suggest that the missing are closet ‘footie’ fans. (The consequence of which, has
resulted in ‘Moondance’ being cancelled the following week…the
slippery slope). Not our usual fayre, but there was
sufficient material for even the most ardent rock fan to enjoy, as well
as, some excellent interpretations of Classic Rock tracks, such as G &
R’s “ Sweet Child of Mine” and Bon Jovi’s “ Living on a
Prayer”. The first set was a mix of female
lead numbers by the likes of Anastasia, Alanis Morrisette and a really
superb rendition of Gwen Stefani’s “ What are we waiting for?” The
Stevie Wonder medley was performed to a very high standard. However for
Pink’s version of U2’s “ Beautiful Day”, should have been done to
the true Irish Bands version. The second set progressed much the
same way, with a 70’s medley, including the Average White Band, Doobie
Bros. and finishing with Rose Royce’s “ Car Wash”, seamlessly
linking in with each other. Highlights to me, were the Skunk Anansie and
the ever-cheerful “ Walking in sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves. This half was tempered a little for
me; by the gradual realisation there was some talent behind the excellent
voice of Amanda J. Matt, on lead, demonstrated when he was given a rare
opportunity to display his skills, plus the backing vocals of Tim, that
they should be given more air time, and allowing for a variation of sound
and interpretation. All in all, a good night’s entertainment. Amanda has the voice to belt out more raunchier rock numbers, which I am sure with the band’s talented support will dominate the local scene for years to come. Gazinho |
